This is an exciting time for England Dodgeball as we launch our first-ever youth section, dedicated to supporting and developing players under 18. We are passionate about making this a success and providing a strong foundation for the future of our sport. We’re thrilled to see events like the Junior European Championships (JEC) introduced by the EDF, giving young athletes a fantastic opportunity to compete on an international stage. Building on the momentum of our successful England Junior Experience Days, we are committed to creating a positive, inspiring environment where young players can thrive and grow.

Role Overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior Coach to work with our younger teams, supporting their development in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment. This role is crucial in shaping the next generation of players, helping them progress through the pathway with a focus on skill-building, well-being, and fostering a positive team culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching and Development:

  • Deliver high-quality training sessions focused on skill development, game tactics, fitness, and teamwork.
  • Identify and nurture individual talents, tailoring coaching to support diverse player needs and abilities.
  • Monitor and assess player progress through regular feedback and development plans.
  • Use positive coaching techniques to inspire and motivate young players to reach their potential.
  • Prepare players for progression within the England Dodgeball pathway, ensuring they are ready for higher levels of competition.
  •  To make up part of the selection committee for your squad demonstrating professionalism, confidentiality, and fairness of treatment.
  • To follow the England Coaching Standards.

Academy Operations:

  • Collaborate and work in partnership with the other coaches in the set up.
  • Ensure training sessions align with the academy’s goals and England Dodgeball’s long-term development pathways.

Player Support:

  • Promote a safe and supportive environment, ensuring the welfare and mental health of all players.
  • Follow safeguarding protocols and report any concerns in line with England Dodgeball policies.
  • Encourage open communication, building trust with players, parents, and guardians.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to players, fostering confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Administration and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance, and player evaluations.
  • To design written session plans accessible to the Manager 
  • Ability to understand and deal with sensitive and confidential matters that may rise from players. Then dealing with these in an empathic manner and directing them to the relevant policies and processes.
  • To attend regular meetings with the England staff or coaching team to discuss tactics, training and any other business.
  • Represent the academy positively at tournaments, events, and workshops.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and other relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Safeguarding training (this may be organised after applying for the role) 
  • British Dodgeball Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Dodgeball (this may be organised after applying for the role).
  • Emergency first aid training (this may be organised after applying for the role) 
  • Enhanced Criminal Records Check (this may be organised after applying for the role)
  • To undertake any other training that this role requires. 

Desirable

  • British Dodgeball Level 3 coaching qualification 
  • Current valid driving license or can make travel arrangements to get to training.

Knowledge and abilities

  • Understanding of dodgeball, skills and tactics (training may be given to the right candidate) 
  • Experience of coaching dodgeball, tutoring or working in an educational role, or experience of working in a leadership position within a dodgeball-specific organisation such as a member club.
  • Understanding of the WDBF and EDF rules.
  • Ability to be consistently punctual for training 
  • Ability to work using your own initiative and to work as part of the wider team 
  • Ability to assess candidates in line with England’s standards
  • Flexibility to travel and work evenings/weekends as required.

Person Specification:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven coaching experience, ideally working with young athletes.
  • Sound knowledge of dodgeball rules and tactics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Experience developing and delivering structured training plans.
  • A commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and player well-being.
